Motherhood is a roller coaster. I’ve found that with two toddlers we’re generally on an emotional journey every day. We go from laughter to tears in a millisecond and then right back to laughter again. Sometimes, myself included. Let’s just say it is easy for self-doubt to creep in and to start wondering, “Am I doing a good job?” Am I a shitty Mom?” I know I’m not alone in this so, here are 3 things that help make me FEEL like a better Mom.
1. Reflection and intention setting. I am absolutely in love with this journal. I call it my happy journal! The first thing I do in the morning and last thing I do at night is to write in it. It very simply walks you through setting your intensions for the day from a place of positivity and gratefulness. And it truly gets my day started in the best way and helps me to reflect on all of the things in my life that I am so so grateful for.
2. Carving out one-on-one time that we each enjoy. I’ve found that the kiddos really need individualized time with me. This isn’t an easy task as they both demand my attention throughout the day. But I’ve been trying my hardest to simply spend a little time each day one-on-one. While Sydney is at school in the mornings, Brayden and I get our time in. And when Brayden is napping in the afternoon it is Sydney’s turn. Now, this might not happen every day because, LIFE, but we do our best. During that time we play a game or do an activity that we BOTH enjoy. This sounds silly but they key is that I am enjoying it too. If I’m not enjoying this time, they notice immediately and it feels crappy. When we’re both having fun the mood is shifted and it feels so so good!
3. Positivity. Motherhood is crazy! Despite what has gone down one day, tomorrow is another day. I try to find ways to stay positive and just focus on the GOOD. Every night at dinner we go around the table and say what we are each grateful for. Sometimes the kids come out with silly things like ice cream but then sometimes they say things that are truly profound and it melts my mama heart.
On that note, I’m always jotting down notes and inspirations. I saw this quote recently and think it is such a great reminder to focus on the positive, especially with little ears around. I made this wallpaper so I could have it on my phone and I wanted to share it with you as well! Simply save this image to your phone and then set it as your background. XO
